Preparing for possible flooding in Sublette County
by Sublette Emergency Management
May 18, 2011

To the Public of Sublette County Wyoming:

This is a reminder that Saturday May 21st at 10:00 is a training/ in sand bag filling. This event is scheduled at Half Moon and Hennick streets just south of the Pinedale EMS barn at the clinic . This is the time that members of the community are asked to assist in the filling of sand bags. Flood season is upon us and it is predicted that the Green River will raise to flood stage. This is especially important to our neighbors that live along the river. They will need our help.

The Emergency Management Coordinator Jim Mitchell through County Road and Bridge has provided sand bags and two loads of sand to each of the below mentioned Fire Departments. The sand is located in the fire department parking lot and the sand bags are inside each bay area. Except at Daniel; the bags are at the fire hall and the sand is at the county yard north and west of Daniel Jct. during the time of need, the community has been asked to come and help with the filling of these bags and the fire department will be there to assist when called. This will be a coordinated and controlled event with safety as the main goal. Sand bags will be filled and distributed only under the direction of the fire department at the rural locations at the time of immanent flooding.

If you can contact your neighbors this is a small community spread out over a large area and we will need all the help we can get.

If you are having concerns about flooding please call the nearest Fire Department and the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch center: 1-307-367-4378
We have plans in place to assist you:

Sandbags and the sand for filling them have been strategically placed for your use at each of the following Fire Departments:
• Bondurant Fire: Chief Richard Thomas
• Kendall Valley VFD: Chief Joe Sampson
• Boulder Fire: Chief John Blaha

The local Fire Chiefs will be surveying the situation in each local area and will have sandbags and material available at each of the Fire Stations named above, for your use.

We will be monitoring each specific area where flooding has occurred in the past and will assist as necessary.

Sheriff Dave Lankford,
TJ Hunt; County Fire Warden,
Jim Mitchell; Emergency Management Coordinator
