Encana supports the Children’s Discovery Center Summer Day Camp
$10,000 grant

PINEDALE – The Children’s Discovery Center (CDC) received a $10,000 grant from EnCana Oil and Gas (USA) Inc. to fund its Summer Day Camp. Formed in 1998, the CDC is a nonprofit organization providing Sublette County with childcare for children ages 2-12. While the CDC’s preschool program runs year-round, the camp creates a solution to Sublette County’s limited supply of child care for school age children, K-3rd grade, during the summer months.

The EnCana grant will be used to hire staff, including a newly created position for a high school student, and fund activities for 20 school age children attending the camp. Furthermore, the young students will have daily exposure to a well-rounded curriculum focused on exploration, investigation and imagination. The camp takes advantage of Pinedale’s natural beauty and is conducive to learning by exploration.

"The Summer Day Camp provides valuable child care in a stimulating, educational environment, which only expands our children’s developmental and cognitive growth," said Randy Teeuwen, EnCana community relations advisor. "Our partnership with the CDC offers an active and effective approach to maximize youth learning, positively address the growing child care need in the county and empower our young workers."

Community member Terrie Swift further explains, "As a working parent in Sublette County, I, along with countless others, rely on quality child care. I would not be able to work or be involved with my community without the excellent service that the CDC provides. We are extremely fortunate to have such a phenomenal program available to us."

The success of the past two Summer Day Camps prompted the CDC to create a new full-time, paid position for a junior or senior high school student interested in pursuing a career in child care.

"This position is an investment in our future workforce, and will allow a high school student to gain valuable child care knowledge, interact with the children and connect with the community," said CDC Director Rebecca Fogerty. "Plus, it’s fun summer job."

With camp less than two months away, the students are gearing up and getting excited for many activities, like hiking, field trips to Fremont Lake and local parks, and community offerings such as activities at Rendezvous.

"My favorite part of the summer was singing at the talent show and hanging out in the teepee," said Jersey Mitchell, age 7.

"The CDC and all our families are very thankful for EnCana’s continued support of our mission to bring affordable childcare to Sublette County," said Fogerty. "Without their support, many families would be left without care for their young children."
