August 6, 2006

The 2006 Sublette County Fair took place from Saturday, July 29 to Sunday, August 6 at the Sublette County Fairgrounds north of Marbleton.

The Fair had something for everyone. The central theme focused on agriculture and livestock events for cattle, horses, swine, sheep, goats, horses, llamas, rabbits and poultry. There were a variety of 4-H and FFA exhibits and competitions to showcase the efforts of kids over the past year.

The Fair highlight event was the John Conlee concert, opening with the band Exile. The kids were thrilled by the 4-man extreme BMX bike/inline skate stunt show by Creative Sports. There were performances throughout the week by J.D. Blanton, cowboy singer; magician Sean Watson; and hypnotist Andrew Becker. The Reptile Adventures let fairgoers see a collection of live snakes, alligators, snapping turtle and lizards. Tiny the Clown did balloon and bead twisting, puppets and sleight of hand family magic.

Other fun events included Team Roping, the Little Buckaroo Rodeo and the Rocky Mountain Horsepullers, the Fiddle Jam session, 4-D Barrel Racing, and the Pig Wrestling and Greased Pig Contest.

Competitions included the annual Quilt Challenge, Chocolate Dessert Bake-off, the Dean Luce Memorial Dutch Oven Cook-off, the old Cowboy Hat and Boot contest, Wind Chime Contest

The fair held their annual Talent Contest where inspiring entertainers, young and old, had their chance to appear on the stage to show off their talent. The kids could enter the coloring contest or paint a rock for the Rock Painting contest. Families could even enter their dogs and cats into special shows and contests for pets.

Entries in the Exhibit Hall included artwork, photography, baking, crafts, textiles, sewing and clothing, woodworking, leather craft, knitting and crocheting, food and nutrition, breads, candies, cookies, canning, preserves, pickles and relishes. The horticulture and floriculture exhibits included fresh flowers, cut flowers, floral arrangements, potted plants, greenhouse raised plants, garden vegetables.
