Description:Compensation: $3,000 per month (prorated when applicable) paid monthly.
Time Period: June 11th to October 5th. Extension through the end of October is possible.

Range Rider Contractor Announcement
The Sublette County Conservation District is seeking dedicated individuals to assist with livestock movement in grazing allotments affected by the Roosevelt Fire. SCCD works closely with stakeholders on public and private lands to promote & maintain healthy rangelands, clean water and air and maintain premier wildlife and habitat. The project area for which riders are hired under is in Sublette County, located in western Wyoming. Ranger riders will assist with livestock management on public lands where fire mitigation efforts are being implemented.

Riders will be responsible for closely monitoring and moving herds of cattle of affected permit holders, with the intent of minimizing livestock stress and losses due to mitigation efforts. Range Riders will work as a team to accomplish the goals of:
• Effectively communicating with permittees/livestock owners about livestock distribution, movements and health issues when necessary.
• Effectively working with stakeholders.
• Encourage livestock distribution to have minimal impacts on the landscape.
• To keep livestock where they are meant to be according to the annual operating plan.

Contract Responsibilities:
• Riding on horseback through cattle in effort to
• Move livestock as needed to reduce landscape impacts
• Identify sick or injured cattle and potential hazards in pastures
• Monitoring cattle for sickness and injury and reporting any health concerns to the cattle owner.
• Communicating daily with the SCCD.
• Communicating frequently with the permittee or their designee.
• Keeping a log of daily activity (where riding, move cows from location to location, etc.), taking photos if necessary.
• Documenting noxious weeds through use of GPS (if requested).
• Properly caring for livestock and equipment.
• Gathering/moving cattle when asked by participating permittees.
• Works a minimum 40-hour week.

Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with ranching operations or with cattle handling/monitoring and working with ranchers.
• Familiarity with variables associated with working in remote mountain landscapes.
• Ability to navigate using maps, a compass, and GPS.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Owns a truck, trailer, horse and tack.
• Valid Driver’s License
• Valid First Aid/CPR

SCCD is a drug and alcohol-free workplace and riders will be expected to adhere while performing work under this contract.
