Additional consideration will be given to those applicants who are currently NFPA Fire Officer II or higher, Executive Fire Officer (EFO) certified, Strike Team Leader – Engine (STEN) and Task Force Lead (TFLD) certified, and EMT basic or higher. Starting salary is $75,578.20 per year, commensurate with experience, with a benefit package. Description
The Deputy Fire Chief/Warden is the second in command of the fire department. The job comes with significant responsibility, including leading the organization in the absence of the Fire Chief/Warden. The position includes a combination of administrative work and time spent in the field to keep operations running efficiently in the fire department.

Job Duties
The Deputy Fire Chief/Warden is expected to respond to emergencies, including: structural fires, wildland fires, car fires, motor vehicle collisions, hazardous materials incidents, emergency medical incidents, and other types of emergencies. The Deputy Fire Chief/Warden may be required to assume incident command of these emergency incidents. The position supervises and coordinates the activities of the Fire Battalions including: providing proper training, managing firefighters, and ensuring that department policies and procedures are followed. The position assists the Fire Chief/Warden in setting goals for the department, establishing policies and procedures, disciplining subordinates, handling grievances, managing the maintenance of department facilities, managing the maintenance of all apparatus and equipment, purchasing new apparatus and equipment, and managing inventory. The Deputy Fire Chief/Warden is expected to develop monthly reports regarding the department activities, as well as a variety of other reports as appropriate, including the annual report of activities. The job has a defined public presence including; speaking at schools, community events, press events, and other meetings. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief.

Preferred Experience and Education
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out the essential duties and responsibility satisfactorily. While not required, additional consideration will be given to those candidates who possess the knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, qualifications, certificates, and licenses listed below:

Education
• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Fire Administration, Fire Science or a related field.
• Successful completion of the National Fire Academy – Executive Fire Officer Program.

Experience
• Five (5) years of experience in a supervisory capacity at the Battalion Chief level or higher.

Certifications
• NFPA Fire Officer II or higher
• NFPA Fire Instructor I or higher
• NWCG Strike Team Leader (STEN) - Task Force Leader (TFLD) or higher
• Wyoming EMT-Basic or higher

Other Requirements
• Wyoming Driver’s License (DOT Class B Commercial is preferred)
• Must reside in Sublette County within 30 days of hiring

Work Environment
The Deputy Fire Chief/Warden frequently works nights, weekends, and holidays and must be available for on-call duty officer coverage for emergency responses. Local travel is a main component of the job, with regular travel to meetings and emergency scenes being expected. A command vehicle is provided as an added benefit to accomplish the necessary travel requirements. Working conditions can be very dangerous with exposure to toxic chemicals, fumes, extreme temperatures, and falling objects during emergencies.

Medical Evaluation
The position requires the candidate to pass an annual medication evaluation for arduous activities. Activities involve field work requiring physical performance calling for above-average endurance and conditioning. These duties may include an occasional demand for extraordinarily strenuous activities in emergencies under adverse environmental conditions and over extended periods. Requirements include running, walking, climbing, jumping, twisting, bending, and lifting more than 50 pounds; the pace of work typically is set by the emergency condition. Examples may include, but are not limited to; interior attack structural firefighting and wildland firefighting operations.

Job Type: Administrative Full-time Salaried Exempt Employee
Starting salary is $75,578.20 per year with benefits; including paid retirement with the Wyoming Retirement System, paid employee health/dental insurance, vacation leave, sick leave, legal holidays, life insurance, and disability insurance. Benefits become effective after a 90-day probationary period.
